Luggage on the boat
What to take with you on a sailing vacation
The holiday season is over, but the memory of the warm days in the endless freedom of the sea follows us:
The dance of the blue waves, the sun above, the pine-forested islands, the fish of all colors and the relaxed rudder sway lazily. To the right, to the left … You wait for the anchor to drop and throw yourself into the salty, warm water, with golden lights. Everything is beautiful, a poem, and in the colorful sunglasses you see your calm and happy expression.
Beautiful holidays, all day long party, good food, beautiful places, beaches, ports, all these and many other unforgettable experiences accompanied us on sea trips. To enjoy a worry-free week, we started first of all with the administrative part, we packed our bags with everything we needed. Here is what we take with us on the sailing holidays:
1. The most suitable bag on the boat is the one that is not rigid, i.e. a handbag, preferably waterproof: it is much easier to store in the cabins on the boat than the stiff trollers, which need more space and do not adapt as well to the space requirements. I got a huge bag for the gym, which did an excellent job.
Anti-UV clothing and swimwear. Because you will be outdoors most of the time, make sure you have the necessary protection and the right clothing. Anti-UV T-shirts are an excellent choice in this regard, and most sports stores (such as Decathlon) have products designed to protect against the sun’s rays.
Sunscreens – ideal are those with SPF 50, but when you want a little tan (the one formed on the boat, in the wind and water is very nice) use creams with SPF 30 and even 20 until 11 or after 17 in the evening. Do not forget to use them on the skin of the face, this area being very exposed. For the girl, I highly recommend the SPF 50 sprays (from Garnier, Avene, etc.). It is recommended to apply them from the first hour and to repeat the application every 2-3 hours, or after you get out of the water.
Glasses and sunglasses. Also in the sunscreen category, these accessories are very important when you spend a lot of time outdoors in summer.
Boat shoes – you need shoes that stay fixed on the foot and have a light sole so that they don’t stain the deck. There are shoes for navigation, but also for water (with which you can step on the stones in the water) does its job very well.
Protective equipment for non-waterproof objects – for example a waterproof phone case, a waterproof bag that you can take in the water, etc. The water, even if only a few drops, will not bypass you, so you will not regret that you have taken safety measures for the things you care about;)
Portable speaker. Well, how to go anywhere without your favorite music? By the way, make sure you have roaming enabled in the country, that you have a good enough data plan (for music and for sending photos to friends you take with you when you return to the sea;)) and I warmly recommend a generous external battery . Play it safe.
Other things you wouldn’t want to forget:
– flip flops
– 2 towels are enough
– one or two interesting books
– a selfie stick (trust me;))
– more fancy clothes for evenings spent in ports
– one shirt / top per day
– thicker clothes for cool evenings
– credit cards
– personal hygiene products (and make-up)
– a jacket provided with wind protection. Some evenings on the boat are spectacular but cool, so to enjoy the waves at sunset and sunrise, a jacket will protect you from the cold.
That’s it! Check these, then leave the shore and your worries behind. Have a wonderful holiday!
